Datadog On-Call alternative and Datadog Incident Management alternative

IncidentBot is a Datadog On-Call alternative for teams that want their pager, incident process and status page to stay put when the monitoring stack changes. You get on-call schedules, escalation policies, SMS and voice paging, Slack incident channels with roles, public and private status pages and postmortem drafts in one product with one seat price. Datadog monitors keep firing exactly as they do today; the webhook just points at IncidentBot. Plans start at 24 USD per user billed annually, with monthly plans you can cancel at the end of any month.

The pager sits on the same contract as the monitoring

Datadog On-Call is a good product, and for a team that runs everything in Datadog it is often the sensible choice. The reason people start comparing is usually not the pager itself. It is what the pager is attached to.

  • The Datadog renewal is the biggest line in the infrastructure budget, and the team is moving logs or metrics to Grafana, Prometheus, ClickHouse or a cheaper vendor. Once part of the alerting lives outside Datadog, a pager bought inside the Datadog contract becomes the hardest piece to move.
  • Status pages, incident roles, timelines and postmortems are a second product. On-Call covers schedules, escalation and paging; status pages and the incident timeline come with Incident Management at 30 USD a seat, or with the Incident Response bundle at 40 USD a seat.
  • Seats are committed for the contract. Datadog bills the peak number of seats assigned in a month, a seat you unassign stays billable for that period, and reducing the committed count is a contract change that waits for renewal. Teams with frequent rotation changes or contractors on call end up paying for more seats than they have people on a schedule.
  • One vendor for detection and response means one vendor outage takes both. If you want the system that wakes people up to be separate from the system that watches production, you need a second vendor anyway.

Who switches, and who should stay

Teams that switch are usually 10 to 150 engineers with alerts from more than one source (Datadog plus CloudWatch, Grafana, Sentry or uptime checks) who want paging, the incident process in Slack and status pages under one vendor that is not their observability vendor. Teams that should stay on Datadog On-Call: teams fully committed to Datadog who only need paging, since 20 USD a seat with SMS and voice included is a low price, and teams who value jumping from the page straight into traces and logs in the same UI. The table below says where Datadog wins.

Where Datadog wins: the lowest paging seat price of the big vendors with telephony included, unlimited status pages once you buy Incident Management, and the alert, the page and the telemetry in one place. Where IncidentBot wins: a pager that does not move when your monitoring contract changes, one seat that covers paging and the incident process instead of two products, monthly plans without a committed seat count, and free stakeholders who can follow every incident.

Datadog On-Call alternative pricing for a 10 and a 40 responder team

List prices per month with annual billing. The scenario: every responder carries the pager, and a smaller group runs incidents and posts customer updates on a status page (3 people at 10 responders, 8 at 40). Datadog prices come from datadoghq.com.

Setup10 responders, per month40 responders, per month
Datadog On-Call only (paging, no status page)200 USD800 USD
Datadog On-Call plus Incident Management seats for the incident leads290 USD1,040 USD
Datadog Incident Response bundle for every responder400 USD1,600 USD
IncidentBot Starter (1 public page, 100 SMS and voice per user)240 USD960 USD
IncidentBot Team (3 public or private pages, unlimited SMS and voice)490 USD1,960 USD

Read it honestly. For paging alone, Datadog On-Call is cheaper than every IncidentBot plan. Once you add status pages and an incident process, IncidentBot Starter costs less than On-Call plus Incident Management seats at both team sizes, and less than the bundle by a wide margin. IncidentBot Team costs more than the Datadog bundle; what you buy with it is unlimited paging, private status pages and a contract that does not depend on your observability spend. On a month-to-month Datadog contract the On-Call seat is 24 USD and the bundle 48 USD, and any seat above your commitment bills at the on-demand rate of 29 or 58 USD. From a Datadog monitor to a status update in one record

Your Datadog monitors stay where they are. Only the notification target changes.

  • Add an IncidentBot webhook in the Datadog Webhooks integration and mention it in your monitors. Triggered and recovered notifications open and resolve alerts on the matching service, and repeated notifications for the same monitor group into one alert.
  • The alert pages the on-call engineer through an escalation policy by push, SMS, voice, email and Slack. Alerts from CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus Alertmanager or Sentry route through the same policies.
  • /incident opens a dedicated channel in Slack, sets severity, assigns commander, comms lead and scribe, and posts the runbook attached to the service.
  • The comms lead drafts the update from the live incident and publishes it to the public page, the internal page or both on the status page app. Nothing goes to customers on its own.
  • When the incident closes, the timeline becomes a blameless incident postmortem draft with the impact window, response times and action items synced to Jira or Linear.

Moving off Datadog On-Call in five steps

A paging migration is a translation, not a rebuild. Most teams finish in two to three weeks.

  • Inventory: list your Datadog On-Call teams, schedules, escalation policies and routing rules, plus every monitor that mentions an On-Call team. Note overrides and hand-off times.
  • Rebuild rotations: recreate calendars with on call scheduling software, keep the schedule names so responders recognize them, and copy escalation policies tier by tier.
  • Re-point alerts: add the IncidentBot webhook next to the existing On-Call handle in your monitors, one service at a time, so both tools receive the same alerts.
  • Parallel run: keep both paging for one to two weeks, and have every engineer install the IncidentBot mobile app and confirm a test page.
  • Cut over: remove the On-Call handles from monitors, unassign On-Call seats in Datadog Seat Management before the next billing cycle, and publish your status page on your own domain.

Other Datadog On-Call alternatives and competitors

The usual Datadog On-Call alternatives are PagerDuty, Opsgenie (end of support April 5, 2027), incident.io, Rootly, Grafana Cloud IRM, Squadcast and Better Stack. PagerDuty is the closest paging-first peer, see the PagerDuty alternative. Slack-first teams compare the incident.io alternative, teams moving metrics to Grafana look at the Grafana OnCall alternative, and teams that want monitoring and on-call in one cheaper bill check the Better Stack alternative. The best incident management software guide lists the criteria that separate them.

FAQ

Is Datadog On-Call better than PagerDuty?

Datadog On-Call is cheaper than PagerDuty on list price, 20 USD a seat billed annually with SMS and voice included, and it keeps the page next to your Datadog telemetry. PagerDuty is the stronger choice when alerts come from many monitoring tools or when the pager has to survive a change of observability vendor.

How much does Datadog On-Call cost?

Datadog On-Call costs 20 USD per seat per month billed annually, 24 USD month-to-month and 29 USD on-demand, with SMS and voice paging included. Incident Management is 30 USD a seat and the Incident Response bundle with both is 40 USD. Checked on datadoghq.com in October 2026.

Can I use Datadog On-Call without other Datadog products?

Yes. Datadog says On-Call and Incident Management each work without other Datadog products. In practice most buyers already run Datadog monitoring, and the pager is bought on the same contract, which is why it moves when the monitoring contract moves.

Does Datadog On-Call include status pages?

Not on its own. Unlimited status pages with custom domains come with Datadog Incident Management or the Incident Response bundle. In IncidentBot one public status page is included on Starter, three public or private pages on Team and unlimited pages on Business.

Does IncidentBot work with Datadog alerts?

Yes. Add an IncidentBot webhook through the Datadog Webhooks integration and mention it in your monitors. Triggered notifications page the on-call engineer through your escalation policy, and recovered notifications resolve the alert.

Can we try it before we migrate?

Yes. The incident simulator runs a sample incident in your browser: an alert, escalation through a policy you build, a Slack channel, a status page draft and a postmortem skeleton.
