Rootly pricing per user, Rootly plans and the real cost of incident response plus on-call

Rootly pricing starts at 20 USD per user per month, but that buys only one of its two products. Incident Response Essentials costs 20 USD per user and On-Call Essentials costs another 20 USD per user, so a team that wants Slack incidents and paging from Rootly pays 40 USD per seat. Enterprise tiers of both products and the AI SRE product are priced by quote. Prices were checked on Rootly's pricing page in September 2026.

Most people who search for Rootly pricing are an engineering manager with a shortlist and a budget line to fill. This page lists what each plan includes, what the headline price leaves out, and the monthly math for 5, 15 and 40 users next to incident.io, PagerDuty, FireHydrant and IncidentBot.

Why do some sites show Scale and Essentials plans?

Older pricing trackers list Rootly Essentials and a larger Scale tier. Vendr, for example, shows Essentials at 12,000 USD list for 50 users and Scale at 42,000 USD for 100 users. Rootly's own page now shows Essentials and Enterprise for each product, so treat the Scale numbers as a reference for what a quoted Enterprise contract can look like, not as a current plan.

Rootly cost beyond the seat price

The 20 USD headline is real, but four things decide the invoice.

  • Two products, two lines. On-call is a separate purchase. If you want Rootly to page people, you pay for Incident Response and On-Call, and the seat counts may differ between the two.
  • Private incidents need Enterprise. Security incidents and HR-sensitive incidents usually have to be private. On Rootly that feature sits on Incident Response Enterprise, which is quoted.
  • One external status page on Essentials. A company with separate products or regions that needs more than one public page moves up a tier.
  • Renewal terms. Vendr reports that Rootly contracts often carry an automatic 5 to 10 percent annual increase unless it is negotiated out. Ask for a price cap in the first contract, since it is harder to remove at renewal.

On the other side, Rootly offers up to 50 percent off for startups under 100 employees, under 50 million USD raised and under five years old, and a pay what you can program for companies under 25 employees. If you qualify, ask for it before you compare anything else.

How much does Rootly cost per year?

At list price, Rootly Incident Response Essentials costs 240 USD per user per year and the pair of Essentials products costs 480 USD per user per year. A 15 person team with both products pays about 7,200 USD a year before any discount. Vendr's buyer data puts the median negotiated discount at around 15 percent on Essentials.

Rootly pricing for 5, 15 and 40 users

List prices per month. Rootly prices from rootly.com, other vendors from their public pricing pages, annual billing where offered.

Rootly Incident Response Essentials only (20 USD)100 USD300 USD800 USD
Rootly Incident Response plus On-Call Essentials (40 USD)200 USD600 USD1,600 USD
IncidentBot Starter, on-call and status page included (24 USD)120 USD360 USD960 USD
IncidentBot Team, unlimited SMS and voice (49 USD)245 USD735 USD1,960 USD

Read it honestly. For incident response alone, Rootly Essentials costs a dollar less per seat than IncidentBot Starter. Once you add paging, Rootly's pair costs 40 USD per seat, almost twice IncidentBot Starter, which already includes on-call scheduling, escalation, 100 SMS and voice notifications per user and a public status page. IncidentBot Team costs more than the Rootly pair because it adds unlimited phone paging, three status pages and postmortem drafts; teams that page rarely are fine on Starter.

Which Rootly plan does your team need?

  • You already page with PagerDuty or Opsgenie and only want better incidents in Slack: Incident Response Essentials is the Rootly product to price, and at 20 USD it is competitive.
  • You want Rootly to replace your pager: budget for both Essentials products, 40 USD per seat, and check that 20 schedules and escalation policies cover every team.
  • You handle security or HR incidents: private incidents mean Incident Response Enterprise, so you need a quote.
  • You are a startup: apply for the startup discount before the first call.

If your reason to look at Rootly is that Opsgenie reaches end of support on April 5, 2027, our Opsgenie alternative page walks through the migration.

Where Rootly wins: a strong set of AI features at the entry price, a large workflow engine and startup discounts. Where IncidentBot wins: paging included instead of sold as a second product, a lower per-seat price for incidents plus on-call, a published price on every self-serve plan and free stakeholders. The full plan list and the seat calculator are on on call management software pricing, and the paging side is described on on call management.

If a large share of your pages comes from broken data pipelines rather than broken services, adding data observability that flags stale or missing tables upstream usually cuts the page count more than any incident tool can, whichever vendor you pick.

Questions to ask before you sign or renew Rootly

  • Is the seat count the same on Incident Response and On-Call, or can responders who never go on call skip the On-Call license?
  • Is there a monthly option, or is the contract annual only?
  • Is the annual price increase capped, and at what percent?
  • Which features in our pilot are Essentials, and which are Enterprise?
  • How are stakeholders who only read incidents counted?
  • What happens to our data and retrospectives if we leave?

How much does Rootly cost?

Rootly costs 20 USD per user per month for Incident Response Essentials and another 20 USD per user per month for On-Call Essentials, so 40 USD per seat for both. Incident Response Enterprise, On-Call Enterprise and AI SRE are priced by quote. Checked on rootly.com in September 2026.

Does Rootly have a free plan?

Rootly's pricing page lists no free plan. It offers up to 50 percent off for qualifying startups and a pay what you can program for companies with fewer than 25 employees. IncidentBot has no free plan either; the incident simulator runs a sample incident before you create an account.

Is on-call included in Rootly pricing?

No. Rootly On-Call is a separate product at 20 USD per user per month on Essentials, on top of Incident Response. Incident Response alone manages incidents in Slack but does not page people through schedules and escalation policies.

Is Rootly cheaper than incident.io?

It depends on the plan. With on-call, Rootly's two Essentials products cost 40 USD per user, more than incident.io Team with on-call at 25 USD and less than incident.io Pro with on-call at 45 USD. For incident response alone, Rootly at 20 USD sits between incident.io Team at 15 USD and Pro at 25 USD.

What is the cheapest alternative to Rootly for incidents and on-call?

Among tools with a published price, PagerDuty Professional is the lowest at 21 USD per user per month billed annually with on-call included. IncidentBot Starter costs 24 USD per user per month billed annually, also with on-call included. IncidentBot Starter also includes a public status page and free read-only stakeholders.
