Betterstack pricing and Better Stack pricing per responder for on-call teams

Better Stack pricing starts with a free tier (10 monitors and heartbeats, 1 status page, Slack and email alerts) and then a responder license at 29 USD per month billed yearly or 34 USD monthly. The responder license is what you buy for on-call: phone, SMS and push alerts, incident management and telemetry access. Everything else is an add-on: extra status pages, password or SSO protection per page, subscriber packs, monitor packs and log volume. Prices were checked on betterstack.com in October 2026.

Most people searching for Better Stack pricing are either pricing a first on-call setup or looking at a renewal that grew faster than the team. This page lists every line on the invoice, shows the monthly bill for 5, 15 and 40 responders, and compares it with PagerDuty, incident.io, Rootly, Squadcast, Grafana Cloud IRM and IncidentBot.

What the responder license includes

The responder license is the seat that can be on call. It covers unlimited phone call alerts, SMS, push and email, on-call scheduling and escalation, Slack incident management and AI post-mortems, plus access to the monitoring and telemetry data. People who only look at dashboards are team members at 0 USD, so you pay for the engineers who carry the pager, not for every viewer. That is a fair model, and for a small team it is one of the cheaper ways to get phone alerts.

Why the Better Stack bill grows faster than the team

The seat price is not where the surprises are. These are the lines teams add in the second year:

  • A private status page. Internal pages for staff need access control, and Better Stack sells it per page: 42 USD a month for a password, 208 USD for company SSO on yearly billing.
  • More pages. Each additional public page is 12 USD a month, so per-region or per-product pages add up.
  • Subscribers. One thousand subscribers are included. A B2B product with 4,000 customer admins subscribed pays 120 USD a month for the other 3,000.
  • Monitors. The free 10 monitors run out fast; each pack of 50 is 21 USD a month.
  • Telemetry. Logs and traces are billed by volume, which is the hardest line to forecast.

What does Better Stack cost for 5, 15 and 40 responders?

Monthly cost at yearly billing. Every scenario includes one public status page, which the responder license covers.

Setup5 responders15 responders40 responders
Responder licenses only145 USD435 USD1,160 USD
Plus a second page with password protection (12 + 42 USD)199 USD489 USD1,214 USD
Plus a second page behind SSO (12 + 208 USD)365 USD655 USD1,380 USD
Plus SSO page and 3,000 extra subscribers (120 USD)485 USD775 USD1,500 USD

For a team of 15, the step from "seats only" to "seats plus a private page behind SSO and a real subscriber list" is 340 USD a month, about 78 percent more than the seats. Telemetry comes on top of every row.

Is Better Stack cheaper than PagerDuty and incident.io?

On the seat alone, Better Stack sits in the middle of the market. List prices per user per month at annual billing, checked on each vendor's site in September and October 2026:

ToolEntry on-call seatFull incident seatStatus page
Better Stack29 USD responder license29 USD (one license)1 included, extras and access control per page
PagerDuty21 USD Professional41 USD BusinessExternal page with 250 subscribers on Professional, 500 on Business
incident.io25 USD (Team 15 + on-call 10)45 USD (Pro 25 + on-call 20)1 public on every plan, internal page on Pro
Rootly20 USD On-Call Essentials40 USD with Incident Response Essentials1 external and 1 internal page with Incident Response
Squadcast (SolarWinds Incident Response)15 USD Pro24 USD PremiumFrom Premium
Grafana Cloud IRM20 USD per active user plus 19 USD platform feeSameThrough the Atlassian Statuspage integration
IncidentBot24 USD Starter49 USD Team1 public on Starter, 3 public or private on Team

So yes, Better Stack is cheaper than PagerDuty Business and incident.io Pro with on-call, and it includes phone alerts without per-message fees. It is more expensive than Squadcast and Grafana Cloud IRM on the seat. The comparison flips once you need private pages or a large subscriber list, because those are per-page and per-1,000 charges at Better Stack and part of the plan elsewhere. Full plan detail for the others is in our Datadog On-Call pricing, PagerDuty pricing, incident.io pricing and Squadcast pricing breakdowns.

Better Stack vs IncidentBot for 5, 15 and 40 responders

Same scenario as above with one public and one private page, monthly at annual billing.

Setup5 responders15 responders40 responders
Better Stack with a password-protected second page199 USD489 USD1,214 USD
Better Stack with an SSO-protected second page365 USD655 USD1,380 USD
IncidentBot Team (3 public or private pages, unlimited SMS and voice)245 USD735 USD1,960 USD

Read it honestly. Better Stack with a password page is cheaper than IncidentBot Team at every size, and it includes uptime monitors. IncidentBot Team comes out ahead for small teams once the private page needs company SSO, and for any team that wants several private pages, a large subscriber list in the plan price, and the incident process in Slack with commander, comms and scribe roles, severity and runbooks per service. If you need only one public page and modest paging, IncidentBot Starter at 24 USD per user is one of the lowest seats on this page, behind only Squadcast Pro, Rootly On-Call Essentials and Grafana Cloud IRM, and it already includes the status page. The side-by-side feature table is on our Better Stack alternative page.

How to price Better Stack before you sign

  • Count responders, not employees. Only the people on a rotation need a license; everyone else can be a 0 USD team member.
  • Decide now whether you need an internal status page and how staff log in to it. Password versus SSO is a 42 USD versus 208 USD a month decision per page.
  • Pull your subscriber count from your current status page and price every 1,000 above the first.
  • Estimate log and trace volume for a month with an incident in it, not a quiet one.
  • Ask for yearly billing only after a monthly trial cycle, and use the 60 day money-back window to run a real on-call week.
  • Run the renewal through your procurement software with these lines itemized, so next year's quote is compared against this year's usage and not just the seat price.

If the monitoring side is what you value, Better Stack is a sensible buy. If you mainly need a pager, incidents in Slack and status pages, compare the per-seat total in our on call management software pricing calculator first.

How much does Better Stack cost?

Better Stack has a free tier with 10 monitors and heartbeats and 1 status page. The responder license for on-call costs 29 USD per responder per month billed yearly or 34 USD monthly. Status page features, subscriber packs, monitor packs, SSO and log volume are priced separately on top.

Is Better Stack free?

Better Stack has a free tier for uptime monitoring: 10 monitors and heartbeats, 1 status page, Slack and email alerts and 3 GB of logs kept for 3 days. Phone and SMS on-call alerts need a paid responder license, so a team that pages people at night pays from the first responder.

How much does a Better Stack status page cost?

One status page comes with the free tier and with the responder license. Each additional public page costs 12 USD a month on yearly billing. Password protection is 42 USD per page per month, and SSO, IP allowlisting or white label are 208 USD per page per month each.

Does Better Stack charge for status page subscribers?

Yes, above the included 1,000. Each additional 1,000 status page subscribers costs 40 USD a month. A product with 5,000 subscribers pays 160 USD a month for subscribers on top of seats and page add-ons.

Is Better Stack cheaper than PagerDuty?

On the full seat, yes. Better Stack's responder license costs 29 USD per month billed yearly, while PagerDuty Business costs 41 USD per user per month billed annually. PagerDuty Professional at 21 USD is cheaper than Better Stack, but has fewer incident features.

Does Better Stack offer a refund?

Better Stack offers a 60 day money-back guarantee on paid plans, according to its pricing page. That is long enough to run real on-call weeks with your team before you commit to a year.
