Source: the Instatus pricing page, checked in October 2026. Paying a year up front works out to 25 percent off, which Instatus describes as three months free. Non-profits and open source projects can ask for a free Pro account. Pro shows a toggle for the page type, so if you need a private page on Pro, confirm that price with Instatus before you budget it.
Is Instatus free?
Yes. Starter is free for good and covers a public status page with 200 subscribers, 15 monitors on 2 minute checks, 5 team members and 2 on-call members, with alerts by email only. That is plenty for a side project. A business usually outgrows it on the first missed outage, because email does not wake anyone and the page cannot run on your own domain.
What does Instatus cost for 5, 15 and 40 people?
Because Instatus is flat, the size of your team only matters where it crosses a limit. Prices per month with yearly billing, everyone on call.
| Setup | 5 people | 15 people | 40 people |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instatus, email and SMS alerts | 15 USD (Pro) | 15 USD (Pro) | 225 USD (Business, over the 20 on-call cap) |
| Instatus with phone call alerts | 225 USD (Business) | 225 USD (Business) | 225 USD (Business) |
| Instatus Pro plus PagerDuty Professional for paging | 120 USD | 330 USD | 855 USD |
| Statuspage Startup plus PagerDuty Professional | 204 USD | 414 USD | 939 USD |
| IncidentBot Starter (1 public page, SMS and voice paging) | 120 USD | 360 USD | 960 USD |
| IncidentBot Team (3 public or private pages, incident roles) | 245 USD | 735 USD | 1,960 USD |
The math for the paired rows is the status page plan plus 21 USD per user for PagerDuty Professional billed annually. Fifteen people on Instatus Pro with PagerDuty: 15 plus 15 x 21 = 330 USD a month, or 3,960 USD a year. Statuspage Startup is 99 USD a month; see Statuspage pricing for every Atlassian tier.
Read it honestly. If you need a public page and SMS alerts for up to 20 people, nothing in this table comes close to Instatus Pro at 15 USD a month. Phone calls change that: Instatus puts them on Business, a fifteenfold jump. At 5 people, IncidentBot Starter costs about half of Instatus Business and includes voice paging, Slack incident channels and a public page. At 40 people, Instatus Business is the cheapest way to get phone alerts, as long as your rotation stays within 50 on-call members.
Where the Instatus bill grows
Three things push an Instatus account to the next plan.
- Phone calls. SMS is on Pro, calls are on Business. Many teams discover this after the first night when a text did not wake anyone.
- The on-call cap. On-call members are counted separately from team members, 20 on Pro and 50 on Business. Above 50 you are in an Enterprise conversation.
- Private pages and single sign-on. All page types and SAML SSO are listed on Business, so an internal page for staff or an SSO requirement from IT moves you from 15 to 225 USD a month.
Is Instatus cheaper than Statuspage?
Yes, by a wide margin. Instatus Pro at 15 USD a month with yearly billing compares with Atlassian Statuspage Startup at 99 USD and Business at 399 USD, and Instatus includes uptime monitors that Statuspage does not. Statuspage still makes sense for teams deep in Jira and Opsgenie, but with Opsgenie reaching end of support on April 5, 2027, that tie matters less every month. Our Statuspage alternative page covers that switch.
| Vendor | Entry paid plan | How it is priced | Phone call alerts | Incident channels and roles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instatus | Pro, 15 USD a month yearly | Flat per account | Business, 225 USD a month | Not listed on the pricing page |
| Atlassian Statuspage | Hobby, 29 USD a month | Flat per page, by subscribers and team members | No, needs a separate pager | No |
| Better Stack | Responder license, 29 USD a month yearly | Per responder, status page add-ons | Yes, unlimited | Slack incident management |
| IncidentBot | Starter, 24 USD per user yearly | Per responder | Yes, 100 SMS and voice per user on Starter | /incident in Slack on every plan |
Better Stack sits in between: monitors, logs, on-call and status pages from one vendor at a per responder price. Better Stack pricing lists its add-ons line by line.
When IncidentBot is worth more than Instatus
IncidentBot costs more than Instatus at almost every size, so it only makes sense when the status page is the smallest part of the job. That is the case for a US team that pages engineers at night, wants voice calls without jumping to a 225 USD plan, runs incidents in a Slack channel with a commander and a scribe, and wants the customer update and the postmortem to come out of the same incident record. If that is not you, keep Instatus. If it is, the Instatus alternative page compares the two feature by feature and covers the move, and the status page app page shows what the page looks like on each plan.
What to check before you pay for Instatus
Ask these before you pick a plan, and ask every other vendor on your shortlist the same.
- How many people will be on call in 12 months, and does that cross 20 or 50?
- Does your rotation need phone calls, or is SMS enough for your worst hour?
- Do you need a private page for staff or customers, and what does it cost on the plan you are buying?
- Will your page pass 5,000 subscribers, the Pro limit?
- Who pays when a second tool, such as a pager, renews at a different date? Teams that run several subscriptions set budget alerts on SaaS spend so a renewal never lands as a surprise.
